Our Whakataukī | Guiding Proverb

Kotahi te kōwhao o te ngira e kuhuna ai, te miro mā, te miro whero me te miro pango.

There is but one eye of a needle, through which white, black and red cotton are threaded.

This powerful whakataukī, shared by Kingi Pōtatau Te Wherowhero, reflects the essence of Rere ki Uta, Rere ki Tai. It speaks to the weaving together of diverse threads—Mātauranga Māori, Western science, and farmer knowledge—each unique, yet united through a common purpose.

Together, these threads form a strong, collaborative approach. Our strength lies in the connections we build and the knowledge we share, working as one for a resilient and thriving whenua, te taiao, and community.

Our Tāhuhu | Our Mission

Our mission is to identify farming systems that enhance the mana and mauri of the soil. Our tāhuhu (mission) is to empower land managers, kaitiaki, and kaimahi pāmu (farmers) to support and implement farming systems that continue to grow the mana and mauri of soil.

Farmers Leading the Way

“We thought using nitrogen and phosphates would fix the farm, but we had no idea what was happening in the soil.” – Miah and Jenny

Before, we were just going in circles, doing what everyone else was doing. Now, we’re actually seeing change.
– Miru

"Before the project, I wasn’t sure we’d even be dairying in 10 years. Now I can see we’ll be in dairy for a long time."
– Matt
